PFC Health Advisory Limits

On May 19th, 2017 the EPA released new health advisory limits for two industrial compounds known as PFOS and PFOA. These compounds were used extensively in the manufacturing of wire coating, cookware, carpeting and many other stain-resistant materials. They are also found in fire-fighting foam. PFOA and PFOS, along with several other similar chemicals, are collectively referred to as PFCs, C8, fluorinated compounds, and perfluorinated compounds. From 2013 to 2015, they were monitored in public drinking water supplies across the country as part of the EPA's Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Requirement. PFOS and PFOA were not found extensively in that program, but have been detected in a number of locations from Vermont to California. NLS is one of only about a dozen private labs nationally to be approved by EPA for the analysis of these compounds
